the world's most important journal in the field of hair restoration surgery.
His father, Dr. I-sen Shiao, a veteran with over 20 years of experience in the hair transplant field, was
also introduced in the same article.

Regardless of the procedure, prices at UHR will always be competitive and fair. Special financing plans are available to make hair restoration affordable to everyone. For those who permanently lost hair from chemo, radiation therapy, or burns and those who are transgender, we provide special "medical needs" discounts.
Every staff at United Hair Restoration is personally selected not only for their technical ability and knowledge, but also their personality, communication skill, and bedside manner. At UHR, we only hire compassionate and nonjudgmental staff that acknowledge and accept the differences in people regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual or gender orientation. Anyone visiting UHR will be treated with the utmost respect they deserve.
The physicians at UHR not only learn and apply the most current technology in hair restoration,
they help develop it. We have presented topics during the following major events in hair restoration:
-
ISHRS 15th Annual Scientific Meeting - September 2007, Las Vegas, NV, U.S.A.
ISHRS (International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery) is the world's largest
professional organization in hair restoration surgery.
-
ESHRS 10th Congress - May 2007, Paris, France
ESHRS (European Society of Hair Restoration Surgery) is Europe's largest
professional organization in hair restoration surgery.
-
ISHRS 14th Annual Scientific Meeting - October 2007, San Diego, CA, U.S.A.
In addition, we have published the following articles in Hair Transplant Forum International, the premier
communicant among world's dedicated hair transplant surgeons and assistants.

The Shiao Micro-implanter
Graft placement is a critical step in hair restoration surgery. It is also considered the most difficult step. Placing a tiny graft into a still smaller slit on the scalp requires a lot of manual dexterity, natural talent, and experience.
Forceps has been the mainstay of graft placement in the past fifty years, but grafts, particular their roots, can be easily traumatized by forceps - especially in inexperienced hands. The Shiao microimplanter revolutionizes this step.
It not only makes graft placement the easiest step, it protects the grafts because the root of hair follicles are never touched by forceps.
To see how the Shiao microimplanters can make a difference in hair restoration surgery, contact us for a consultation.

Pairing Technique with the Shiao Microimplanter
To provide better appearance of density, a technique of pairing follicular units into one recipient site
is often used. Placing two follicular units into one site, however, can be technically challenging.
By using the Shiao microimplanter, paired follicular units can be placed quickly and safely.

Laser Guided Hairline Design

The design of hairline is crucial for the success of hair restoration surgery.
There are many important design points such as position, irregularity, and balance.
Surgeons typically eye his/her hairline design for its left to right balance.
At UHR, we developed a technique to guide the design using a laser leveler.

Scoring Donor Strip with a Depth Controlled Needle
One of the most important aspects of donor strip harvesting is minimizing follicular transection at the edge of the donor strip.
Many excellent techniques have been described and many tools developed with this in mind.
Several of the best techniques require light scoring of the edge prior to dissection.
We devised a method of scoring that controls the depth and minimizes follicular transection by using a simple bent needle.

Depth Control Sleeves
The recipient sites for the grafts can be made by various types of devices.
Commonly used tools are spear point blades, custom made flat blades, and needles.
Regardless of the method, one important aspect of graft site making is controlling the depth of the site.
A site that is too shallow would not provide enough blood supply to the grafts.
A site that is too deep would cause the graft to be inserted below the skin level,
leading to buried grafts and pitting. To help properly control the graft sites' depth for those who use needles,
we developed a special depth control sleeve and presented it to the members of ISHRS via July/August 2006 issue of Forum.
Although a simple device, it demonstrates that we at UHR continually search for ways to further the art and science of hair restoration surgery.
